Nervecentre e-Observations goes live in inpatient units in Bexhill and Rye Hospitals
East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust have announced that Nervecentre eObservations has now been introduced to their inpatient units at Bexhill Irvine Unit and Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital.
With the introduction of the Nervecentre eObservations module, nurses use handheld devices to input a patient’s observations, such as pulse rate, temperature and blood pressure, into the system. The system then monitors and analyses patients’ vital signs, automatically alerting to any patient whose condition is deteriorating and giving an overview of all activity within an area.
The introduction of the system removes the need for paper-based monitoring charts and means that a patient’s information is always readily available to any clinician who needs it.
Jane Purkiss, Head of Nursing for Intermediate Care in Community Health and Integrated Care at ESHT, said: “Moving to a digital system for monitoring the vital signs of our patients has been a really exciting step for the two units. The system means we can easily see how our patients are doing and can quickly respond if there are signs that a patient is starting to deteriorate. Colleagues on the two units have adapted really well to using the new technology and with plans to extend its use in the future, we’re excited to see what further improvements it will bring.”
Debbie Guy, Director of Operations at Nervecentre said: “It is great to see these two East Sussex Hospital Units progressing so well with their digital patient safety project. Using Nervecentre eObservations on mobile devices will really support and aide the nurses and clinicians to spend more time at the patient’s bedside and will give them all the crucial patient information they need instantly. The staff at both sites have taken to the new system really well and I look forward to seeing the partnership with Nervecentre progress across the whole of East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust even more.
