Gateshead Health focuses on patient safety with Nervecentre mobile solutions

The Global Digital Exemplar continues its mission to put tech at the heart of 21st century care.

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, a Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) ‘Fast Follower’, has continued its mission to put innovative technologies at the heart of safe and efficient patient pathways with the introduction of mobile solutions from Nervecentre Software.

The tools, which strengthen patient safety and clinical workflow, allow ward teams to capture and access real-time clinical information at the bedside, enhancing the trust’s ability to recognise and respond to deteriorating patients.

Nervecentre replaces Gateshead Health’s incumbent vital signs system as part of an integrated suite of solutions designed to support:

  • Electronic observations
  • Clinical noting
  • Hospital at Night
  • Assessments

The system, which is accessible anytime/anywhere via mobile devices, is being rolled out across adult, paediatric, maternity and ED wards. Its introduction is the latest step towards the trust’s core vision for high quality, responsive paperless care.

Gateshead Health was named as one of only 18 GDE Fast Followers in January 2018, partnering with nearby Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to accelerate digital maturity and support the spread of innovation. Fast Follower status has given the trust access to £5 million capital – to be match-funded locally – to invest in digital technologies, with its deployment of Nervecentre the latest example.

Paul Volkaerts, Founder and CEO, Nervecentre Software, said: “This is a proud moment for Nervecentre. As a Fast Follower, Gateshead Health is in the vanguard of digital innovation, so our partnership with the trust presents a great opportunity to embed next generation mobile solutions into the prestigious GDE programme. As health and care organisations tackle the modern-day challenge of managing intense demand with finite resources, mobile-first thinking will be key to delivering safe, responsive and productive services. We are looking forward to working with Gateshead Health to further develop agile tools that empower its teams – and its system-wide partners – to make effective, real-time decisions that facilitate timely, joined-up care.”
