Nervecentre’s partner, Cardiac Services, has been awarded an exclusive multi-year contract by Ireland’s Health Service Executive to deliver Nervecentre software as the sole country-wide Acute Floor Information System (AFIS) to support the delivery of acute floor services for unscheduled and emergency care. The implementation will be phased across 40 hospitals.
Ireland’s hospitals are evolving to improve unscheduled and emergency care services. The vision of acute floors that provide a single point of access to unscheduled and emergency care services will improve onward access to specialist services and risk assessment, ultimately making the flow of patients more efficient. Integrating emergency departments with injury units, acute medical assessment units, and surgery assessment units will build seamless and patient-focused care for acute and critically ill patients. Both Cardiac Services and Nervecentre will play a vital role in delivering these services by enabling the management of all acute floor patients through their unscheduled care pathway.
As Ireland’s country-wide AFIS, Nervecentre’s innovative technology will:
- make it easy for clinicians to record detailed clinical information quickly on mobile devices while they are with acute floor patients
- enable rapid triage, assessment and clinical decision-making
- provide real-time patient flow tracking, including electronic whiteboards
- support multi-disciplinary working and enable efficient referrals and discharges
- provide information to support the operational control and enhanced performance management of services within busy unscheduled care environments
Each of Ireland’s citizens will have one electronic record across the hospitals in a health region, so information about previous visits is available to clinicians, whichever acute floor the patient attends.
Nervecentre’s software is used in the Emergency Departments at seven acute NHS trusts in England, including University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, which is one of the biggest and busiest in Europe.
Ronan O’Brien, Cardiac Services, Managing Director, said, “As a provider of Acute Paperless Solutions into the HSE for over 20 years, we are so happy to be the chosen partner to deliver the AFIS project in Ireland with our partner Nervecentre. With current pressures across Ireland in the Acute Floor Space, we feel the implementation of a mobile first, digital patient record will transform both the clinician and patient experience which will lead to better capacity planning and ultimately, better patient outcomes.”
Paul Volkaerts, Nervecentre, CEO, said, “We are delighted that the HSE has chosen Nervecentre as its AFIS. We look forward to working together with Ireland’s hospitals and Cardiac Services to support this innovative acute floor model that will improve the efficiency and quality of care.”
